Tenerife

Tenerife, known as ‘the island of eternal spring’ is, like Gran Canaria, is an island of two halves. The south coast is dry and warmer than the north, which is greener and more humid.

Santa Cruz, the capital, offers modernist architecture and tree lined streets. There is a wealth of sightseeing to be had, from churches to a convent which houses a museum of fine art.

La Orotava is the oldest region, offering a naturally beautiful setting beside the sea. La Laguna is a beautiful city situated in the Aguere Valley, and boasts a wealth of churches and impressive architecture.

Playa de las Americas is the main resort in the south of the island, where the Compostela Beach is situated with its golden sands. The resort is lively at night, offering a variety of dining experiences as well as nightclubs. To the north of the island, Puerto de la Cruz is the main resort.

Mount Teide is the highest point in Spain and offers views of Gran Canaria from its summit. It is situated in the national park. A cable car ascends the mountain, but you can walk if you choose (it is a 3 or 4 hour trek).
